The poem reads, "Mountain cherry blossoms that are faintly visible all the way to the water's shore. Today the buds on the branches will bloom in anticipation of spring."

Perhaps the scar on the bottom of the tea scoop's body is an image of a cherry blossom, and it is said to be one of the three "Setsugetsuka" tea scoops made by Matsudaira Fumai.
